Decathlon Spanish Distribution Centre improves its installations

Founded in 1976, today Decathlon’s ambition is expressed through creating and retailing sports equipment. Present in 12 countries with 313 shops (39 of them in Spain), is one of the largest sports stores chain in Europe.
Due to its expansion planning, in 2000 Decathlon automates firstly its distribution center based in Madrid, which nowadays continues improving with GD Convey.

Solutions consist of parcels infeed from suppliers by means of telescopic belt conveyors in the magazine centre, merging to a main collector, and sortation by warehouse areas in two floors. When orders have to be delivered to the shops, it is carried out the inverse process, getting out by routes, having connexion with telescopic roller conveyors in the docks area.

Results reached by Decathlon are:

· The possibility of automatic input, sortation and output at a rate of 3.000 parcels per hour.
· To minimize the number of operators during the sorting process.
· Plant rationalization by installing the sortation system in a mezzanine, leaving floor space free.
· Improvement of operators ergonomics and working conditions.
