Delta Cafés, the Portuguese coffee automated by GD Convey

Founded in the 70’s, Delta Cafés, part from Nabeiro Group, is one of the largest Portuguese companies in coffee production, based on more than 160 countries. In 2000, Delta Cafés entrusts GD Convey the entire automation of its new plant in Campo Maior, Portugal.
The solution carries out the collection of the products from six packaging lines, by use of six continuous elevators and belt conveyors placed at the upper plant till the automatic palletising area. After being pallettized, the load is wrapped, labelled and transported to the expeditions and warehousing areas.

Results reached with the new process include:
· Labelling of each coffee and sugar box. Thanks to the software ConveyPrint it is possible to print the label in different languages in accordance to the delivery country.
· Optimization of space, using the upper part of the factory for cases conveying to the expedition area, by means of six continuous elevators, S-type.
· The palletising area is able to palletise eight different references at the same time. The robot is a gantry robot ABB IRB-840,
now GD-840, manufactured by GD Convey in collaboration with ABB Robotics.
· Automatic pallets wrapping and labelling.
· Improvement of the operators ergonomic and work conditions.
· Tracking of each box, conforming pallets according to the SAP client's info.

The GD–840 integrates the original control of the system ABB C4S+, which communicates with supervision and automatic palletising management software ConveyPal, developed by GD Convey. The current version is the result of years of development and experience, managing complex installation carried out worldwide.
