Automation of the major DCs of DHL, Deutsche Post group, in Bremen Plus, Bremen Umbrau and Hamburg, by Sandvik Soritng Systems in collaboration with GD Convey
In 2005 Sandvik Sorting Systems, a technology partner of GD Convey in sorting systems for high throughputs based on Cross-Belt applications, was commissioned to supply the total automation for 3 of the major DCs of DHL in Germany.
GD Convey collaborated in these projects in the upstream and down stream conveying. More than 3 kilometers of conveyors that support up to 2000 starts/stops per hour, with velocities up to 2 m/sec.
The central DC of DHL in Bremen, DHL Bremen Plus, was the consequence of the fusion of the main Distribution Centre of Deutsche Post and DHL. Sandvik installed a Cross-Belt for 18.000 parcels per hour capacity with more than 300 outlets. It is considered the bigger DC of Deutsche Post in Germany regarding to cross-docking capacity and Cross-Belt length, with more than 1.250 kilometres.
The upstream conveying manufactured by GD Convey is made up by 9 rings that gather the parcels and send them dynamically to the sorter, 3.000 parcels per hour per ring.
The DC of Hamburg supplies a capacity of 4.000 parcels per hour with 96 outlets. GD Convey's upstream conveyors connect the flow from an adjacent plant.
The DC of Bremen Umbrau supplies a capacity of 10.000 parcels per hour with 140 outlets. The GD Convey's upstream conveyors connect the flow from two induction areas. |
